Iron Man
Let me start off by saying I had a blast at this film but, it's NOT perfect. There's a lot of good things about Iron Man and the first and foremost one is Robert Downey jr. Without him this film simply would never have worked as well as it did. The story, though weak in points stays very true to the original origin but, of course it updates it a bit. Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts is stunning and understated as well as Pepper should be, I mean she obviously loves Tony but tries to not show it. The weakest part of this film to me is Jeff Bridges as the villian I just didn't really believe him as a villian he was almost too cartoony... which brings me to the secret ending which totally adds another star to my review if you've not seen the film I won't spoil it but, it's totally worth staying after the end credits for. *** 1/2 out of *****
Speed Racer
It's obvious while watching Speed Racer the Wachowski Siblings(can't call em brothers since Larry is now Lana)have a love for the source material and it truly shows. The basic plot is ripped from several episodes of the 60's series and is done in an almost round-about way blending them together to form a basic plot. Where this film really shines however is the races, they are just plain fun to watch and just like an anime come to life, the color palette never lets up so those with epilepsy should probably stay away from this one.The characters are also very fun to follow, emille Hirsh is perfect as speed and John Goodman IS Pops, simple as that... Matthew Fox as Racer X does a wonderful job and Christina Richie as Trixie is simply fun then, we come to spridle and chim chim and these two are nuts! it's like their hopped up on sugar 24/7 and they are just fun characters to follow as they sneak around with speed. If your a fan of the original Speed Racer you're gonna love this, they even have the original theme throughout the film...ahhh, memories! if you're not a fan it's not gonna be a film for you but, if you have kids under 12 they are gonna love it! it's a visual eye candy kind of movie that you simply can't take your eyes off as it burns your retina's with it's multi colored bliss. *** out of ***** |
